If a drain backs up again soon after being snaked, or the line is stopped by grease, scale or silt, call (860) 397-8103. Our line is open 24/7, and same-day appointments are offered when available. While you wait, stop using water on the affected drains.
Hydro jetting uses a hose with a nozzle that sprays water at high pressure from the head backward, pulling the hose forward and washing the pipe wall. It does what a cable cannot: scrubs the whole inside of the pipe. It is not right for every line, though, and the plumber decides after looking at the pipe.
When jetting is the right tool
A cable machine opens a channel through a blockage. Jetting clears the walls too. That matters when the problem is a coating, such as old grease, mineral scale or silt, that leaves only a narrow path for water. Open it with a cable and it narrows again in weeks.
Jetting is also a good follow-up to cutting roots. The cable cuts the roots, and the jet flushes the debris out. Roots can regrow if the entry point remains, so a camera look at the cause is wise.
What to do right now
- Stop using the affected drains and any fixtures upstream of them.
- If water or sewage is surfacing, keep children and pets away and avoid touching it.
- Do not pour chemical cleaner into the line. Pressure washing a pipe full of caustic liquid risks splash-back on the plumber.
- Tell the dispatcher how often this drain has clogged and whether it was snaked before.
- Clear a path to the cleanout or the drain, and move stored items out of the way.
Snaking or jetting
Neither tool wins every time. This table shows how they differ.
| Question | Cable machine | Hydro jetting |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Cuts or pulls through a blockage | Scours the whole pipe wall with water |
| Grease and scale | Leaves a coating behind | Strips most of it off |
| Roots | Cuts them at the blockage | Flushes cut roots and debris out |
| Weak or cracked pipe | Gentler on the pipe | Not advised until the pipe is checked |
| Typical use | One-time blockages, sudden backups | Repeat clogs, buildup, routine maintenance |
Pipe condition comes first
High-pressure water is safe on sound pipe. On a cracked, collapsed, offset or badly corroded line, it can push water and debris through the weak spot and make the damage worse. Very old clay, cast iron or fiber pipe deserves care.
That is why the plumber often runs a camera before jetting, or clears the line with a cable and checks what returns. If the pipe is damaged, sewer line repair comes before cleaning.
What jetting removes
Grease
Cooking fat and soap harden on pipe walls and catch food and paper. The jet cuts and flushes it.
Scale and mineral crust
Deposits build slowly and narrow the pipe. A jet nozzle with the right head breaks it away.
Silt and sand
Fine material settles in low spots and slows flow. High-flow water carries it out.
Cut roots
After a cable cuts the root mass, jetting washes the fibers out of the pipe so they do not catch more waste.
Soap and hair film
A sticky layer builds in long runs and holds other debris.
Smell sources
Residue on the pipe wall can cause a sewer smell. Cleaning the wall often removes that.
Kitchens, restaurants and busy buildings
Commercial kitchens send grease down the line all day, so grease lines clog more often than a home's. Regular jetting, on a schedule that matches the volume of cooking, is a common way to keep those lines open. See commercial plumbing for business and after-hours work.
Condos and apartment buildings share a stack and main among several units. About 39 percent of Rocky Hill housing units were multi-family at the 2010 count. A jetting pass on a shared main can clear it for every unit at once.
Jetting in Rocky Hill
The Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) provides sewer service in Rocky Hill. Jetting cleans your own drain line up to the connection. If neighbors also have backups, ask MDC whether the problem is in the public main.
Much of the housing here dates from the 1960s through the 1980s, from town census counts. Older lines that have not been cleaned in years may carry heavy buildup, and a camera check helps the plumber choose between jetting and a gentler method.
What hydro jetting costs
You get a clear price before work starts. These factors drive it.
What moves the price
- Access: a cleanout is far quicker than removing a toilet.
- Length of the line and pipe diameter.
- How heavy the buildup is.
- Whether a camera inspection is needed first to check pipe condition.
- Equipment size, since large lines need heavier jetters.
- Time of the call: nights, weekends and holidays are usually priced differently.

Questions homeowners ask
Do you handle hydro jetting emergencies at night or on weekends in Rocky Hill?
Yes. The dispatch line answers 24/7, including nights, weekends and holidays. Tell us what is backing up and we book the first plumber who can get to your address. After-hours visits are priced differently, and you get the price before work starts.
Is hydro jetting better than snaking?
Neither is always better. A cable is the right start for a sudden blockage. Jetting suits grease, scale and silt, and repeat clogs. The plumber picks after seeing the line, and may use both.
Can hydro jetting damage my pipes?
On sound pipe, no. On cracked, collapsed or badly corroded pipe, it can make damage worse. That is why the plumber checks the pipe, often by camera, before jetting an old line.
Does jetting remove tree roots?
It flushes out roots a cable has cut, and cleans around them. It does not stop regrowth if the root has an entry point at a crack or joint. A camera shows whether the pipe needs a repair.
How often should a restaurant kitchen line be jetted?
It depends on volume of cooking and whether a grease trap is in use. Busy kitchens often schedule regular jetting. The plumber can suggest an interval after seeing what the line brings back.
Do you serve Wethersfield, Newington and Cromwell?
Yes. We serve those towns from our Rocky Hill dispatch address, and the dispatcher confirms availability for your street when you call. See the Wethersfield page for coverage details.
Call the 24/7 line, describe the problem, and we confirm what it will cost before any work starts.
